GRANITE
A sealer is applied to your granite countertop prior to installation; however, if your countertop is a high traffic area, you may want to seal it more often. When droplets of water no longer bead up on the countertops surface, but instead leave a wet mark and soak into the stone, it is time to reapply sealer. No specific brand of sealer is recommended. It can be picked up at any local hardware or big box store. (Miracle Sealant’s 511 Porous Plus or 511 Impregnator and Dupont’s StoneTech are a few options.)
- We recommend “Ivory” brand Dish Soap, only because it is made without animal fats and free of dyes. Many other brands contain fats, dyes and scents which will damage the stone, including Dove, Dawn and Antibacterial soaps.
- -We never suggest using Windex on Granite, as the Ammonia reacts differently to different stones and can cause permanent streaking. Use Sparkle® Glass Cleaner (ammonia and alcohol free).
- Blot up spills immediately. Acidic substances like wine, coffee, fruit juices, tomato sauce and sodas will not etch granite like they do marble, but they could potentially stain the surface. Cooking oils may also leave a stain if not wiped up.
- Do NOT use undiluted white vinegar on Granite.
LAMINATE
WE RECOMMEND
- Avoid setting anything hot directly from the stove / oven / microwave directly on the countertop, as well as electric skillets, waffle irons, crockpots, etc. This may cause the laminate to bubble, crack or separate from the core material.
- Clean with a mild liquid detergent or household cleaner and a clean, non-abrasive cotton cloth.
- Windex, Fantastik, Formula 409, Mr. Clean are approved cleaners.
- Abrasive pads, scouring powders or cleaners may permanently dull and scratch the surface.
THE ONYX COLLECTION
WE RECOMMEND
- For regular cleaning, use a cloth or sponge with your favorite non-abrasive household cleaner. Avoid using abrasive household cleaners – if a cleaning product feels “gritty”, please do not use it.
- We recommend Eliminate® to remove minerals and scum, and Repel® to clean and create a barrier that prevents minerals from building up. These products will continually make cleaning easier because of the protective polish they leave on the Onyx.
- Hot curling irons and candles can discolor the lavatory if left on for long periods of time. Please use a trivet for these items.
- Check your water temperature and make sure it is not higher then 120°F. Cracked bowls are rare, but extreme water temperature can cause cracking in the bowls over time due to expansion “shock”.
- If left for long periods of time, wet soap bars, or any decorative items which can trap water under them, can cause water penetration. If this happens, simply move the item to allow that area to “dry out”. Move and clean under these type of items routinely.
DO NOT USE ON ANY OF THE ABOVE SURFACES
- Bleach or bleach-based cleaners.
- Ammonia or ammonia-based cleaners.
- Abrasive cleaners such as Comet®, Soft Scrub®, etc..
- Calcium or lime removers such as Lime-A-Way® or CLR®
- Mr. Clean® Magic Eraser
Cabinet Care
- Clean splatters and spills with a mild soap and water mixture and a clean, soft cloth. Make sure to wipe all excess moisture after cleaning.
- Do not use detergents, strong soaps, abrasives, or waxes as they can damage the finish or leave a residue.
- Direct sunlight can change the color of your wood cabinets, whether they are painted or stained. Be sure to keep your cabinets out of direct sunlight by adding blinds and drapes to your windows.
- Do not drape damp dishtowels or clothes over cabinet doors, as the moisture can cause damage, like peeling and discoloration. Be sure to dry wet cabinets immediately to avoid permanent damage.
Touch-Up Kits
Touch-Up Stick
- A touch-up stick fills scratches, holes, and cuts similar to a putty stick.
- Simply apply pressure to the stick in the area that needs to be filled, ensuring that the entire hole is filled. Remove any excess and smooth with a plastic scraper or old credit card. Clean the area with a dry cloth to finish.
Touch-Up Marker
- A touch-up marker repairs scratches and areas of excess wear.
- Shake the marker well before use. To use, run the marker tip over the damaged area. It may take a few coats to completely cover some damage. To remove any excess, use a clean, dry cloth.
